Western Illinois softball loses doubleheader to Lindenwood at home

Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Softball lost both games of a doubleheader against Lindenwood on April 25 at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium, with final scores of 10-0 in the first game and 8-1 in the second.

The losses come as Western Illinois competes in its final home series of the season. The team recorded only four hits in Game 1 but improved offensively in Game 2, tallying ten hits. Payton Brown, Ruby Tarr, Sophia Sanchez, and Alijah Williams each had multiple hits, while Williams drove in the team’s only run with an RBI single during the sixth inning.

Libby Spaulding started for Western Illinois in Game 1 and kept it close through four innings before Lindenwood widened their lead. In Game 2, Lillie Wools pitched five innings before Kathryn McChristy took over for the last two frames. According to the official website, Western Illinois University Leathernecks Women’s Softball competes at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The team is part of Western Illinois University’s intercollegiate athletics offerings and operates out of Macomb, Illinois according to its official website. Notable players include Payton Brown, who has been recognized for her offensive contributions according to university sources.

Western Illinois will conclude its home schedule with a series finale scheduled for tomorrow at noon.
