Western Illinois University Athletics concluded its spring football season on April 25 with the annual Spring Game at Hanson Field, where the Purple team defeated the Gold team, 54–41.
The event marked the end of 14 practices and provided players an opportunity to compete in a game-like environment before heading into the offseason. The scrimmage featured strong performances from both offense and defense, with notable plays by Jacob Kania, Nick Reinicke, Jouvenson Romulus, Kennedy McGill, and Cason Carswell.
Head Coach Joe Davis said he was encouraged by his team’s performance. “Really pleased with the offense’s ability to move the ball and the defense’s ability, especially inside the hashes, to tackle really well,” Davis said. “A lot of positives, and like I’ve told the team, there’s still a lot of work to do before fall camp starts.”
At the conclusion of spring practice, summer captains were announced as selected by their teammates: Nick Reinickie, James Durand, Keshawn Harrington-McKinney, Kennedy McGill, Jake Kruger, and Cason Carswell.
