The Western Springs Police Department announced on May 22 that overnight street parking enforcement will be suspended during the Memorial Day weekend. Residents and visitors may park their cars overnight on Village streets through Monday without needing to register vehicles with the Police Department in advance.

The temporary suspension is intended to accommodate increased activity and special events over the holiday, including the Tower Trot and Memorial Day parade. The department reminded motorists to observe all temporary “No Parking” signs that are posted specifically for these events.

In a message to the community, officials said, “Have a safe and happy holiday weekend and remember – if you drink, don’t drive.”

Western Springs operates under a council-manager form of government, which separates policy-making from administration. Public services are delivered by professional staff who support advisory boards made up of resident volunteers offering expert reviews and recommendations on community matters, according to the official website. The village manager supervises personnel and carries out policies set by elected officials serving as volunteers.

Village offices are located at 740 Hillgrove Avenue. Resident involvement in local governance is encouraged through participation on boards and commissions addressing various issues facing Western Springs, according to the official website.

Officials say residents should remain attentive to posted parking restrictions throughout the weekend while enjoying local celebrations.
