Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP announced on April 14 that Megan K. Smith has joined the firm as a partner in its Litigation Department, based in the Los Angeles office.

Smith is recognized for her work as a trial lawyer, representing clients in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and agency proceedings. She advises both companies and individuals on business disputes, employment investigations and litigation, intellectual property matters, trade secret claims, as well as criminal and regulatory investigations. Her experience spans several sectors including technology, finance, retail, entertainment, sports, media, fashion, energy, hospitality, insurance, real estate and life sciences.

Alex Weingarten, Managing Partner of Willkie’s Los Angeles office said: “Megan is a powerhouse litigator known for her tireless client advocacy and her focus on delivering the best results to meet her clients’ goals, including often resolving disputes before litigation is even filed. As we continue to expand our Los Angeles platform, Megan will further enhance our commercial litigation capabilities and we are excited to welcome her to Willkie.”

Smith joins Willkie from O’Melveny & Myers. Her arrival follows that of Tamerlin Godley who joined earlier this year as Chair of the Entertainment Litigation Practice Group in Los Angeles.

“Willkie’s global litigation platform has an unparalleled reputation, and the Firm’s work on innovative matters across numerous industries aligns well with my practice,” Smith said. “It’s been exciting to watch Willkie’s growth in the region over the past few years, and I look forward to working with the talented team in Los Angeles and across the Firm.”

The Los Angeles office was established in 2021 and now includes more than 100 lawyers serving clients across corporate transactions; real estate; private wealth; tax; litigation; entertainment transactions for management companies; production studios; networks; streaming services; music brands; gaming developers; virtual reality companies; social media platforms; metaverse platforms—and other organizations involved with digital content both domestically and internationally.
