York Road between Gateway Road and Foster Avenue in Bensenville has reopened to traffic after the completion of reconstruction work. This project is part of the York Road Reconstruction Project, which supports the ongoing construction of the new I-490/IL 390 Interchange. The Illinois Tollway is working with the DuPage County Division of Transportation on this initiative.

The newly completed section is the second segment to reopen this year, following the reopening of the portion between Devon Avenue and Supreme Drive in spring. These improvements include drainage upgrades and new curbs and gutters. In December, northbound lanes will reopen between Foster Avenue and Supreme Drive for winter travel.

Reconstruction on York Road will continue in 2026, focusing on the segment between Foster Avenue and Supreme Drive under the new interchange. Lane closures are necessary for safety during construction. Up-to-date closure information can be found on the Tollway website’s Daily Construction Alert.

The reconstruction of York Road is expected to be complete by 2027. Coordination involves DuPage County, Elk Grove Village, Village of Bensenville, City of Chicago, and local emergency services. More details about construction updates are available on the Tollway’s website at www.illinoistollway.com.

The Illinois Tollway began reconstructing a portion of York Road within the I-490/IL 390 Interchange area in 2024, with completion anticipated by 2027. The project includes storm sewer replacements and a multi-use path along York Road’s west side.

Safety measures are emphasized in work zones, with speed limits enforced around-the-clock. Drivers must adhere to the “Move Over Law,” requiring lane changes or reduced speed when passing vehicles with activated hazard lights. Violations can result in significant fines or jail time.

The Illinois Tollway operates as a user-fee system without state or federal funding for maintenance and operations, maintaining 294 miles of roadways across Northern Illinois.
