Zion Elementary School District 6 announced on Apr. 25 that it is continuing its collaboration with local early childhood partners to support students and families in the community.
The district says these efforts are aimed at improving alignment, communication, and services for Early Intervention and Early Childhood students. This ongoing work involves monthly meetings between the Special Education and Teaching and Learning Departments, as well as organizations such as Head Start, Keeping Families Together, Zion Resource Center, United Way, Families of Lake County, Start Early, YWCA, and the Zion-Benton Public Library.
Zion Elementary School District 6 represents several schools in Lake County: Beulah Park Elementary School, East Elementary School, Elmwood Elementary School, Lakeview School, Shiloh Park Elementary School, West Elementary School, and Zion Central Middle School according to the Illinois Report Card. The district serves grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade with a total enrollment of 2,483 students during the 2019-2020 school year.according to state data.
Demographically,the Illinois State Board of Education reports that Zion Elementary is composed of approximately 4.9 percent White students, 36.6 percent Black students, 50.9 percent Hispanic students and 0.2 percent Asian students.
Financially,the district spent $27,927 per student in the year 2020, totaling $69 million for all enrolled pupils that year.
Staffing information shows there are currently164 teachers employed by Zion Elementary, earning an average salary of $58,629 before pension contributions; most are women (83.3 percent), while men make up about one-sixth (16.7 percent) of teaching staff.
Attendance data fromthe Illinois State Board of Education indicates that during the same period there were 179 chronically truant students enrolled—about a rate of seven percent—which is below the statewide average chronic truancy rate.
