The National Rifle Association’s Illinois chapter is encouraging voters across the state to contact their representatives and urge them to vote no on Tuesday on a bill that would ban most ammunition magazines now in use.
The proposal, HB1469 sponsored by Rep. Daniel Burke (D-Chicago), targets magazines of over 10 rounds and is scheduled to hit the House floor sometime during the day.
The NRA noted in a press release that the majority of handguns have magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Group leaders added the bill has no grandfather clause, meaning there is no provision that would allow current owners of such magazines to keep them, instead requiring that they dispose the magazines within 90 days.

The national gun debate has raged anew across the country ever since a former student at a Parkland, Florida, high school walked inside the building and opened fire, killing 17 students, teachers and other administrators.
