A session outlining how to fight an Illinois tax proposal and speeches from lawmakers and candidates will highlight the fourth annual Illinois Conservative Union (ICU) Grassroots Activist Conference, set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.
“Together, we’ll learn, prepare, share ideas and formulate strategies,” ICU leaders said in a press release posted to the organizations’ website. “This is a ‘solutions-oriented’ event. Don’t simply hear more about Illinois’ problems – come away with real-world solutions we can implement together.”
Speaking of how the “Trump Effect” is expected to bring voters to the polls in droves in 2020, organizers urged Illinois voters to prepare themselves to be the change so many of them seek in Springfield.
“Want new representation in Springfield?” the press release said. “Take full advantage of the opportunities to turn Illinois around in 2020."
The festivities are slated to kick off with a “State of the State” address from Illinois state Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville). Later, current congressional candidates Jeanne Ives and James Marter and former Chicago city alderman candidate David Krupa will take part in a “Tales from the Trenches: Campaign Experiences” panel.
With Gov. JB Pritzker’s progressive tax proposal slated to be on the ballot in 2020, the day will also feature a “Progressive Tax: How to Fight it and Win” session.
“If it passes, it will be devastating to Illinois businesses and families,” organizers said in the release. “Learn how to counteract Progressive talking points with compelling facts. It can be defeated.”
The day will wrap with a keynote address from C.L. Bryant, a minister and radio and TV host in Louisiana who also delivered the keynote speech in 2017.
Tickets, which include a continental breakfast, lunch and admittance to all sessions for the event, are $50 per person and $40 for students.
