All indications suggest lawmakers in Cook County won’t adjust property tax due dates despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“There will not be any changes to the Aug. 1, 2020, due date,” Andrea Raila of the Chicago-based law firm Raila & Associates told Mansion Global.

Normally, property taxes in the state are paid in two installments, with 55% of the total bill due in the first payment. Across Cook County, the first payment was due back in March.

With the economic downturn brought on by the spread of the deadly virus, the Cook County Assessor’s Office is expected to reassess all properties in Cook County. As of May 31, Illinois reported 120,600 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 5,390 deaths. Cook County has 32,398 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

“COVID-19 reductions are expected to range from 2% to 7%, and likely will be granted uniformly within property classes,” Raila said.
