Among all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Illinois landed in the 24th spot in a study by WalletHub on how the tourism industry in each state has been affected by COVID-19.
To come up with the rankings, the personal-finance website scored each state based on 10 key metrics ranging from travel and tourism industry-generated GDP to share of employment in travel and tourism-related industries.
Illinois earned a total score of 45.89 out of a possible 100. It joined Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio and the District of Columbia on the list of states with the lowest share of employment in travel and tourism-related industries.
