For every gallon of wine they consume, Illinois residents pay $1.39 in taxes

Illinois wine drinkers pay $1.39 per gallon in state wine excise taxes, according to a new analysis from the Tax Foundation.

Among the 50 states, Illinois had the 13th highest wine excise tax, the foundation's study found. 

The study was based on January 2020 data.
