GOP Chairman Don Tracy criticized two Democratic Congress members for voting to give felons the right to vote while still in prison.
He released a statement after Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and Rep. Sean Casten (IL-6) voted in favor of giving felons the right to vote; an amendment that Reps. Cori Bush and Mondaire Jones of New York offered.
But the majority of Republicans and even some Democrats voted against it.
The U.S House of Representatives voted on the amendment and the results were 328 against and 97 for, with Underwood and Casten joining the latter.
Tracy targeted Underwood and Casten, calling them out for voting for the amendment as just a simple ploy to look good for the ‘woke’ people of their party.
Tracy wrote, “Lauren Underwood and Sean Casten voted today to give murderers and rapists the right to vote while they sit in jail for the heinous crimes they committed.” He continued, “While millions of Illinoisans want our representatives to work on ensuring our elections are free and fair, Underwood and Casten are focused on playing to their woke base.”
