Forward Illinois, a coalition of progressive organizations, released its list of proposals it wants implemented in the current legislative session. These include allowing prisoners the right to vote, background checks for gun owners and mandating sexual education in public schools.

Myles Brady, communications director of Equality Illinois, said in a video the wish list “demonstrates the Forward Illinois commitment to our shared values of inclusion, opportunity, equity, justice, security, and the freedom to be who you are.”

Among the items on the list is providing incarcerated prisoners the right to vote.

In the gun ownership department, Forward Illinois wants people to go through a thorough background check before they are able to purchase a gun. Also, gun owners would be required to get a Firearm Owners Identification card or a FOID, which they would need to renew every five years.

The group is also is advocating for “comprehensive and inclusive personal health and safety education for K-12 public schools in Illinois.” This means that K-12 schools would include sex education in their curriculum as well as seminars on sexual abuse, sexual consent and sexting.
