The Illinois House Ethics and Elections Committee was able to advance a bill on Monday extending curbside voting and expanding ballot drop boxes throughout the state.
This despite the fact that last week five people were charged with election fraud in DuPage County.
Curb-side voting entails permitting an individual to fill out a ballot while he/she is inside his/her vehicle as long as the vehicle is parked in a designated zone outside the polling place.
This provision was made available due to the pandemic, which made it dangerous for people to congregate in a polling place. To ensure safety, curb-side voting was implemented so that individuals could stay inside their vehicles and limit contact with others.
But some are worried that this could lead to more election tampering, which has allegedly already happened in other areas of the state.
According to The Daily Herald, five people from DuPage County were accused of committing fraud during last year’s election.
Darrick Kent, 43, and Amy Kent, 41, who come from Austin, Texas, are charged with falsely claiming that they have been living in DuPage County for more than 30 days prior to the November election.
Adam P. Butler, 51, was charged with perjury and forgery. Thomas E. Wojciechowski, 73, was also charged with perjury. Colleen A. Kirchoff, 60, was charged with two counts of forgery and perjury.
