Count doctor/attorney Roger Klein among those not being a great fan of the way Dr. Anthony Fauci has handled the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, going as far as to question if he was ever the man for the job he now holds.
“He’s one person, mostly a bureaucrat that can’t have a lot of time do other things,” Klein told Chicago’s Morning Answer during a recent appearance. “Even though his position is not a political appointment they’re political aspects to position. Fauci is one voice, but the notion we should take what he says as gospel and follow it I think is wrong.”
Klein’s perspective seems to be one shared by a number of Illinois Republican leaders as it relates to Democrats' handling of the situation, including former GOP House floor leader Peter Breen who recently referred to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s move to use emergency rules to jail business owners that open up as "a desperate move by a failed despot.”
He added “there is no authority for the Department of Public Health to blanket shutdown certain businesses while allowing others to operate that have the same characteristics.”
As for Fauci and the way his word on COVID, including things like mask wearing, has become gospel, Klein insists it’s something he’s never quite seen before.
“I’ve never seen so much fervor for something with so little evidence,” he said. “We really don’t have clinical evidence that there is substantial effect."
Klein, hints he thinks that’s just the way the current administration seems to want it.
“There is an obligation of public officials to be truthful and present information in an unbiased way,” he said. “One gets the feeling there is greater emphasis in trying to scare people into certain behavior.”
