Illinois State Board of Elections Met April 5.

The meeting convened at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom videoconference with all members present.
Chair Scholz opened the meeting by leading everyone in the pledge of allegiance.
Vice Chair Linnabary moved to recess to executive session for litigation, cybersecurity procedures and personnel matters. Member Donahue seconded the motion, which passed by roll call vote of 8-0. The meeting recessed at 3:02 p.m. and reconvened at 4:00 p.m.
Vice Chair Linnabary moved to place Executive Director Steve Sandvoss on paid administrative leave until further action of the board; appoint Assistant Executive Director Bernadette Mathews as Interim Executive Director with a pay increase equal to the salary of the Executive Director for the length of time she serves in that capacity; direct the board to cease any individual communications with Mr. Sandvoss and any further communications regarding the administrative leave should go through Ms. Malowitz. Member Watson seconded the motion, which passed by roll call vote of 8-0.
Vice Chair Linnabary moved to authorize the Chief Information Security Officer and his staff to cooperate with the appropriate agencies including, but not limited to, the Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the SBE electronic devices to which Mr. Sandvoss had access. Member Watson seconded the motion, which passed by roll call vote of 8-0.
The board directed staff to prepare and distribute a press release regarding the actions taken at today’s meeting. A special board meeting was also scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
With there being no further business before the board, Vice Chair Linnabary moved to adjourn until Monday, April 12, 2021. Member Watson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
