Illinois scored 28.53 out of 100 on a new analysis by the personal finance website WalletHub to determine which state populations are the most patriotic, based on their engagement in both military and civilian life.
The score earned by Illinois was the sixth lowest among the 50 states, according to WalletHub. The state was rated 39th in military engagement and 36th in civic engagement, according to researchers.
WalletHub ranked the states across 13 metrics, such as voter participation in the 2020 presidential election, share of active military personnel in the state, volunteer rate and the number of AmeriCorps members per capita.
Illinois came in ahead of only five other states in the patriotism ranking that preceded the July Fourth holiday: California, Michigan, Connecticut, Florida and New York.
