Illinois State Rep. Avery Bourne, who is running for lieutenant governor with Richard Irvin as governor, announced on April 13 that their campaign had received the support of Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle.

"From northern to southern Illinois, Gov. Pritzker's crime bill has made all of our communities less safe," VanVickle said in a statement. "In his time as mayor, Richard Irvin has shown a blueprint for how he will govern, that he will work with local sheriff's offices, and empower law enforcement with the resources needed to keep our communities safe."

Bourne took to Facebook to respond to VanVickle's endorsement saying, "We are honored to have the support of so many law enforcement leaders. Police put their lives on the line everyday and they deserve to have their government listen to them."

South Central Reporter reported that in January, Bourne announced her candidacy and others on their slate with a tweet.

"Proud to be running with this historic team," Bourne said in the tweet. "Together, we will work together to reduce crime, fight corruption and return fiscal responsibility for the people of this great state."

Bourne took office in 2015 and has opposed tax hikes, defunding the police and has vowed to take on political corruption, according to her website.
