Conservative Republican Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey looks forward to abolishing SAFE-T Act.

Bailey, who is facing off Gov. J.B. Pritzker in the Nov. 8 election emphasized the importance of Illinoisans' protection and welfare, which he said, the governor has not considered. 

"The SAFE-T Act is continually being fought against from all corners of our state as a radical, pro criminal legislation," Bailey said in a statement. "JB Pritzker pushed this bill through without any concern for the safety of Illinois families. JB Pritzker failed Illinois families when he signed the SAFE-T Act into law. Repealing this terrible legislation will be a top priority for my Administration. There is nothing more important than keeping our families safe."

The Center Square recently reported that Pritzker has backed HB3653, often known as the SAFE-T Act. He cited the fact that the bill would protect criminals who lack the financial means that "drug-dealers" do and prevent them from spending months in jail as one of the justifications for his position on the matter, according to Metro East Sun.

The Safe-T Act is set to take effect on the first day of the coming year. Those who will face release under the act include those charged with crimes like robbery, kidnapping, arson, second-degree murder, intimidation, aggravated battery, aggravated DUI, aggravated flight, drug-related homicide, and threatening a public official. Criminals have been represented as using the law as a shield to escape punishment and continue committing crimes, Prairie State Wire previously reported.

In his efforts to overturn the harshly condemned SAFE-T Act, Bailey has received support from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police. Bailey has claimed in the past that his administration will “stop trying to make police the enemy,” according to KHQA.

Pritzker, Bailey said, "is letting criminals loose all over Illinois and making our communities less safe."  He also noted that during the Labor Day weekend, "there have been over 40 shootings and 6 deaths! This is unacceptable!" Bailey added that "it is not how it is supposed to be and it is the bad fruit of failed government, and JB Pritzker is responsible for it.'
