Homewood, Illinois - Patrick D. Butler, affectionately known as Packey, Coach, and Pop, lived life to the fullest during his 97 years, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. A proud SouthSider, Packey graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1945, continued his studies at the University of Notre Dame, and later obtained a law degree from Northwestern University in 1956. A veteran of the Army 11th Airborne, Packey's heart belonged to his treasured Fighting Irish, proudly boasting of their victories on the gridiron.

Married for fifty-three years to his beloved Ann, they were a dynamic duo on and off the dance floor, sharing a love that personified "in sickness and health." Together they raised six successful children, embodying dedication and unwavering support to their family. Packey's passion for sports earned him the title of Coach, seen on numerous fields hitting line drives or cheering on young athletes.

Packey's vibrant personality and gift for storytelling made him a favorite among friends, whether at Comiskey Park, the golf course, tennis court, or enjoying a beer at The Fifth Quarter. His role as a dedicated father extended to his fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, earning him the title of "Pop" and creating countless cherished memories.

Packey was the loving husband of the late Anna Mae and the cherished father of Pat, Mary Ann, Michael, Donna, Thom, and Mandy. A devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend, Packey's legacy of love and dedication will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood on Sunday, March 2, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., followed by a Funeral Mass on Monday, March 3 at St. Veronica’s Parish, Infant Jesus of Prague Church. Burial will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Rosary Hill Home or Honor Flight Chicago would be greatly appreciated.
