Joan M. Schmeltzer, 88, Remembered for Devotion to Faith and Passion for Karate

Joan M. Schmeltzer, aged 88, passed away on March 11, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy Schmeltzer and the loving sister of David Schmeltzer, Margaret Merigold, Fred Schmeltzer, and Gerry Kennedy.

Joan entered the convent at 17 years old and remained a devoted Catholic throughout her entire life. In her later years, she developed a passion for karate and achieved a brown belt. Known for being an avid sports fan, Joan also enjoyed playing slot machines as a new social outlet.

Visitation for Joan will be on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Curley Funeral Home in Chicago Ridge. The funeral service will then be held at St. Linus Church in Oak Lawn at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
