Kenneth “Ken” Mareska, aged 78, passed away on March 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Hailing from the southwest side of Chicago, Ken was a humble man whose life was a testament to selflessness and love for family. He served his country in Pinder Barracks, Germany, from 1966-1968, and upon discharge, joined the Bedford Park Fire Department, where he dutifully served as a fireman, EMT, and Hazmat team member for 35 years.

Despite his unassuming nature, Ken was known for his knack for helping others, often going above and beyond the call of duty. He was a true hero in the eyes of many, though he would humbly deny the title. Ken cherished his family and strived to exemplify goodness throughout his life. A lover of the great outdoors, Ken found joy in fishing, family card games, and watching the Chicago White Sox.

Ken leaves behind his beloved wife Kathleen Mareska, children Clifford, Jorie (Matthew), Audrey (Brian), and grandchildren Owen, Miles, Evan, and Bruce, as well as his sister Joann and brother-in-law Richard. Ken’s memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium in Justice, Illinois. Flowers or memorial trees can be sent through the floral store in memory of Kenneth. Rest in peace, Ken, your service and love will be remembered always.
