FOIA Request to St. Clair County Recorder Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Prairie State Wire have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the St. Clair County Recorder in Illinois. Our request seeks access to records detailing all properties and their most recent sales, along with all available metadata related to these transactions.
Specifically, we are requesting information including the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name. This data is essential for us as members of the media to fulfill our professional responsibilities of holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We believe that as media professionals disseminating information for public benefit, we qualify for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Our efforts are further supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
