Raymond Lawrence Vasquez, known affectionately as Ray, aged 77, passed away on May 15, 2025, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, surrounded by his loving family. Ray, a longtime resident of Romeoville and a Veteran of the Vietnam War, served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969. Following the war, he embarked on a successful career as a Funeral Director, culminating in ownership of Vasquez Funeral Home in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, known for its Mexican/American services. Upon retiring in 2006 after over 35 years of service, Ray left behind a legacy of compassion and care for families during difficult times.

Actively engaged in community service, Ray was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as the first Grand Knight of the Bishop Roger Kaffer Council #10944 in Romeoville. He was also involved with the Plainfield Moose Lodge #2491 and dedicated his time to the Romeoville Veterans Commission. Ray's love for his family was paramount, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was renowned for his daily countdowns until his beloved annual vacation destination, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Ray is survived by his wife of 55 years, Andrea Vasquez, children Augustine, Virginia, Michael, and Kristina, grandchildren Riley, Chelsea, Andrew, Aaron, Nia, Makayla, Noah, Ava, and Ian. He is also survived by three brothers, seven sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Augustine and Beverly Vasquez, along with two brothers and one sister.

A visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Anderson Memorial Home in Plainfield, IL. The Funeral will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, following which he will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville with Military Honors. Ray will be remembered for his dedicated service, love for his family, and his joyous anticipation of his yearly escapes to Puerto Vallarta.
