Today, the Illinois Senate confirmed Michael T. Carrigan for a second five-year term on the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). Governor JB Pritzker had announced Carrigan's reappointment earlier this year on February 10.

Carrigan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving, stating, "I'm grateful to the Illinois Senate and Governor Pritzker for the honor to continue serving the people of Illinois. Every decision the Commission makes impacts the lives of Illinoisans. It's a responsibility I keep front of mind as we work toward a modernized grid and improved roadway and rail crossing safety."

ICC Chairman Doug Scott highlighted Carrigan's valuable experience: "Commissioner Carrigan's extensive background in dealing with issues important to working families and the energy sector is certainly an asset to the ICC. We appreciate the unique perspective he brings to each proceeding, and I am especially thankful to have him representing Illinois on the Organization of MISO States' (OMS) Board of Directors."

Before joining ICC, Carrigan held leadership roles within labor organizations, including his tenure as President of the Illinois American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) from 2007-2019. His career began in 1978 as an apprentice electrician at IBEW Local 146 in Decatur.

Currently, Carrigan serves in several capacities within regulatory bodies such as Vice President of OMS and member roles within MISO's Advisory Committee and NARUC committees.

Carrigan also has experience in public service at local government levels, having served four terms on Decatur City Council before being appointed mayor in 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from MacMurray College.

The ICC functions as a quasi-judicial body that regulates utility services across various sectors like electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, water, sewer services, transportation safety programs related to commercial motor carriers, among others.

For more information about ICC or assistance with utility disputes or transportation-related complaints, contact details are provided by ICC through their official communication channels.
