James “Jim” William Lackey, who passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, was celebrated for his kindheartedness, passion for bowling, and unwavering commitment to family. Born to Harley and Majorie Lackey in Parma, Missouri, on January 13, 1941, Jim, the oldest of seven siblings, grew up amidst laughter and love within his close-knit family.

In 1963, Jim married Sandra Strange, with whom he shared a life filled with many joys and cherished memories. Together, they welcomed daughters Jessica Lee and Hillary Jean, and son James "Clayton". Jim’s commitment to his family was unwavering, and his love for his wife, daughters, and grandchildren shone brightly in all areas of his life.

As a passionate bowler, Jim left a lasting impact on the sport, serving as the Secretary of the Kankakee Bowling Association, inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1997. His dedication to bowling tournaments and clubs demonstrated his love for the game and the camaraderie it brought. Additionally, Jim was involved with various associations, showing his commitment to fostering connections within the bowling community.

Aside from his bowling prowess, Jim was a supportive foster father to numerous children, spreading warmth and guidance to those in need. His kind and nurturing nature extended beyond his family, touching the lives of many.

A Vietnam War veteran, Jim’s time in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief showcased his dedication and selflessness in the service of his country. His later visits to the Hines VA Hospital reflected his ongoing respect for his military service and connection with his fellow veterans.

A man of many talents, Jim was an accomplished musician, entertainer, handyman, and craftsman. From building projects to performing in his band “The Country Gentlemen,” Jim’s creativity and resourcefulness knew no bounds. His love for music, food, and sports, particularly the Chicago Cubs and Bulls, highlighted his varied interests and brought joy into his life.

As a dedicated family man, Jim’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and strength. A man who enriched the lives of everyone he touched, he will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Visitation to commemorate Jim’s life will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Additional visitation will take place at College Church of the Nazarene on Friday, June 13, 2025, followed by interment at St. Anne Township Cemetery in St. Anne.
