Illinois will move to a state-based health insurance marketplace starting in 2026, following approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The new platform, Get Covered Illinois, will take over operations from Healthcare.gov, which has served as the federal exchange since 2013.
Enrollment through Healthcare.gov for Illinois residents will end at the close of 2025. Open enrollment for Get Covered Illinois is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2025, and continue through January 15, 2026.
Last year, Get Covered Illinois introduced a $6.5 million grant to establish a statewide navigator program. This initiative aims to place certified brokers and navigators throughout communities in Illinois to provide free assistance with enrollment.
