Richard Allen Sampognaro, aged 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Homewood after battling Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lung Cancer. Born and raised in Harvey, IL, Richard was a beloved husband to Catherine Sampognaro for 50 years and a devoted father to his children Heather, Julie, Amy, and Richard Allen Jr. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Richard, known as Rick, cherished his family and spent many memorable moments with them at gatherings, sporting events, and special occasions. He was a dedicated member of the community, serving as a Retired Lieutenant for the Homewood Fire Department and owning Rick's Auto Care and Flossmoor Family Automotive. He later co-founded R & R Maintenance, Inc., serving clients in Illinois and Indiana.

Rick was actively involved in his children's activities and built strong connections through organizations like Homewood Baseball & Softball and St. Joseph’s Church. Remembered for his warm demeanor, friendly smile, and generous spirit, Rick touched the lives of many.

Visitation will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, IL, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, with a Fire Department Walk Through and Chapel Service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association in Rick’s honor are appreciated.

Richard's legacy of kindness and community service will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
