Thousands cheer Lisa Madigan's resignation news on Illinois Policy Facebook page

Springfield capitol

Thousands of comments have been posted on the Illinois Policy Institute's Facebook page since Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s announcement that she will not seek re-election to a fifth term.

“Maybe she is bailing out because her dad was a major player in the pension crisis and all the Illinois budget woes, so she is moving to Indiana before her real estate tax and Illinois income tax go up further,” Joseph DiGiorgio posted.

“Wouldn’t have anything to do with what’s going to be discovered with her involvement with the Gonzales lawsuit now would it,” Scott Bybee wrote.

“Great news!!" Mac McCarty posted. "Hasn’t uncovered any corruption in Illinois in 14 years. Look a little harder there Lil Lisa.”

“First positive news I’ve heard coming out of Springfield,” Andrea Nesci Vetor commented.

“She sees the demise of Illinois and is smart enough to get our after pillaging Cook Count,” Mulder Jim posted. “You can bet she will not stay in Illinois."

Respondents didn't only target Lisa Madigan, however. Many appeared to want her father, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), to follow suit.

"Why doesn't she tell her FATHER to do the same?" Socorro Montanez wrote. "he hasn't done absolutely nothing for the state of Illinois but made it bankrupt, borrow and raise taxes!!!"

"Take your Old Man with ya!" David Ward posted.

Lisa Madigan has been attorney general for 14 years. She will leave office in January 2019.
