Thousands of Illinois employers can now rely on an automated system to handle state taxes.
Changes made earlier this month mean that unemployment insurance (UI) tax work can be handled on the MyTax Illinois portal, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).
More than 300,000 employers are now able to use the portal to simplify the tax process by filling in monthly and quarterly reports.

Following its introduction, MyTax Illinois saw more than 15,000 wage reports filed, $3 million in tax payments processed and almost 700 electronic requests for refunds.
“We’re pleased IDES was able to provide a seamless way for Illinois business owners to pay their UI taxes,” Rob Karr, president and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, said in a press release.
The next wage reports, from August, are due on Oct. 2, and IDES Director Jeff Mays warned employers not to wait until the last minute to file.
“We would suggest that you avoid the filing rush and set up your MyTax Illinois account now if you haven’t already and begin to file,” Jeff Mays said in the press release. “We strongly recommend that you not wait until the end of the month.”
