J.B. Pritzker wants the richest Illinoisans to pay more in taxes, yet as one of the country's richest people, he's awfully reluctant to show how much he pays, the Illinois Republican Party charged recently.
Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune, was ranked 219th on the recent Forbes list of richest Americans, with personal wealth said to be $3.4 billion. But since promising to release his tax returns in April, he has failed to do so.
One of Pritzker’s rivals for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, Sen. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) has a clock on his campaign site noting that Pritzker has now failed to fulfil that promise for more than 200 days. Pritzker recently released a new ad highlighting his support for a progressive state income tax in the interest of increasing fairness.

“J.B. Pritzker's hypocrisy on this issue is stunning – as he continues his calls to make the wealthiest pay more in taxes, Pritzker, one of our nation's wealthiest individuals, continues to hide his own income taxes from the public, even as he orchestrates schemes to cut his own property tax bill,” Illinois GOP spokesperson Aaron DeGroot wrote in a press release.
