Ives takes aim at Rauner in latest campaign ad

Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), who is running against Gov. Bruce Rauner in the Republican primary, goes on the attack against her rival in a new “Ives: The Choice for Republican Voters In 2018” advertisement.

“Illinois Republicans have a choice to make in the 2018 election,” Ives says in the video. “They can either concede defeat by re-electing one of the most deservedly unpopular governors in the nation, or they can get the revolution they were promised in 2014.”

Ives, who has vowed to restore trust and faith in state government, also accuses Rauner of having turned his back on hard-working families like her own who once stood as some of his biggest supporters.

“Rauner committed to take on the ruling class, instead he became one of them,” she says in the video. “He said he would stand with you, instead he knelt before the Chicago bosses. There must be a reckoning. We have a strong governorship, we just happen to have a weak man in office right now.”

Ives said her time at the U.S. Military Academy has prepared her for the many challenges she may face in the governor’s mansion.

“I grew up in a farming community in South Dakota and I was raised to speak plainly, work hard for what you want and treat others the same,” she said. “At West Point and in the Army those values were translated into a code. I will not lie, cheat or steal.”
