Wheeler appointed to House Republican Leadership Team
House Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) has appointed Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) to a House GOP leadership position.
“I would like to inform you that I have appointed Rep. Keith Wheeler to a vacancy on the House Republican Leadership Team,” Durkin told Illinois GOP congressional members in an email. “During his time in the general assembly, Keith has exemplified his commitment to our caucus and to the principles that we fight for every day in the Capitol. I am looking forward to working with Keith and our entire caucus as we continue to fight for what’s best for Illinois.”
Wheeler recently came out in support of Gov. Bruce Rauner’s push to reinstitute the death penalty here in Illinois for certain crimes.
“At least for negotiation purposes for other ways that they can make our counties safer,” he told the Illinois New Network. “That’s an important tool to have back in discussion.”
Wheeler represents Illinois’ 50th District, which includes Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Plano, St. Charles and Yorkville.
