State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) will be leaving office on Sept. 30.

Althoff, who has represented the 32nd Senate District since 2003, was not running for re-election to the Senate, opting instead to seek a spot on the McHenry County board.

“The decision to resign prior to the end of my term allows me the ability to not only tie up loose ends, but also to remove the appearance of utilizing my state office as a way to campaign for the McHenry County Board District 4 seat,” she said in an announcement.

Craig Wilcox

Republican Craig Wilcox and township assessor Mary Mahady are running to replace Althoff. The McHenry County GOP is expected to name Wilcox to fulfill the rest of Althoff's term in the interim.

The 32nd Senate district includes parts of Lake and McHenry counties.
