Erika Harold has conceded in her hard-fought race for Illinois Attorney General against Democrat Kwame Raoul.

With about a third of the vote counted, Raoul led with 60 percent to Harold’s 33 percent and to about seven percent for Libertarian candidate Bubba Harsy.

Chicago Board of Election commissioners estimated that turnout for this election cycle was expected to exceed 55 percent, the highest midterm turnout in more than three decades.

Throughout the race, Harold sought to make an issue of Rauol’s close alliance with longtime House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago), going as far as to claim her rival would be “beholden” to Madigan and his machine-style politics.

Rauol, who is slated to take office soon after the New Year, raised about $12 million in his campaign after formally declaring his campaign in 2017.

Overall, the Sun-Times reports Rauol out-raised Harold by nearly a 3-1 margin.
