Victor Reyes, the “power broker” whose badgering of disgraced Chicago Ald. Danny Solis to “send him business” was recorded by the FBI, has made $962,452 in campaign contributions to 303 separate campaign committees since 2005, according to an analysis of Illinois State Board of Elections data.
That includes $14,750 to the Solis-controlled 25th Ward Regular Democratic Organization and $1,500 to Solis’ own campaign committee, as well as a collective $38,700 to four aldermen Reyes complements on the FBI tape for referring him customers.
Reyes says Chicago Aldermen George A. Cardenas (received $17,750 from Reyes), Ricardo Munoz ($10,000), Proco “Joe” Moreno ($6,950) and Roberto Maldonado ($4,000) have all sent him business.
Reyes made the contributions through his lobbying firm, The Roosevelt Group, and his law office, Reyes Kurson.
House Speaker Michael J. Madigan (D-Chicago) has been the leading beneficiary of Reyes’ largesse. Committees he controls, including the Democratic Party of Illinois ($71,655) and Friends of Michael Madigan ($35,972) have received $107,627.
Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) and his Senate Democratic Victory Fund have received a combined $59,128 from Reyes. Cullerton’s Assistant Majority Leader, State Sen. Antonio Munoz (D-Chicago) has received $31,000.
Newly elected Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) has received $29,436.
Cicero’s senior scribe
Martin Sandoval, a state senator who moonlights as a taxpayer-funded consultant for the Town of Cicero translating news releases into Spanish, has received $41,261 from Reyes.
Reyes has also given $19,000 to Sandoval’s sometime boss, Cicero Mayor Larry Dominick.
Dominick has also retained Reyes’ firm to be his lobbyist as well as to produce the town’s “quarterly senior newsletter,” according to town records.
He’s also given $11,765 to Lou Lang, the longtime Democrat state representative from Skokie who recently retired to lobby and practice law with the Del Galdo Law Firm.
Its name partner, Michael Del Galdo, is Cicero’s town attorney.
In all, 96 percent of Reyes donations totaling $920,452 have gone to Democrats with an average donation of $3,486. The remaining $42,000 went to 39 Republicans with an average donation of $1,076.
