Illinois lost $34.3 billion in gross income due to domestic migration

Between 2010 and 2018, Illinois saw a cumulative decrease in adjusted gross income (AGI ) of $34.3 billion, according to a new analysis of Internal Revenue Service data by the independent research website Wirepoints.

Illinois, which has a flat state income tax, ranked 49th in the study comparing the 50 states’ AGI numbers to out- and in-migration numbers.

The state reported a 9.5% drop in AGI in between 2018 and 2010, when the adjusted gross income was  $362.3 billion.
