Pat Brady has endorsed incumbent Democrat Sean Casten over GOP challenger Jeanne Ives.

While Brady is the former leader of the state GOP his endorsement of a Democrat incumbent over a Republican is less than groundbreaking.

"Lobbyists endorsing lobbyists. The fact that Sean Casten would dig up a relic like Pat Brady, a lobbyist-for-hire whose most notable accomplishment is tanking the GOP in 2012, shows how desperate he is,” Ives told Prairie State Wire. “We expect the name calling. Dragging up irrelevant pols and ancient statements is so boring. The fact you don't have to reach back nearly a decade to drag up Sean Casten's divisive statements. He makes them on a daily basis in real time.”

Brady’s leadership of the state GOP from 2009 to 2013 caused in-fighting due to his support for same sex marriage. He resigned after Democrats won majorities in both house the General Assembly.

"And now that Pat Brady has endorsed Sean Casten, he has endorsed all of that Casten stands for: the misogynistic statements, vandalism, lawlessness, anti-religious bigotry, calling a US combat veteran a 'racist,' and degrading law-abiding gun owners in the most disparaging possible terms,” Ives said.

This time Brady has gone so far as to record advertisements for the Casten campaign.

Brady was previously noted for making contributions to the campaigns of State Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park).

Illinois State Board of Elections records reveal Brady made a personal donation of $2,500 to Cullerton’s 2018 campaign and Brady’s lobbying firm, Next Generation Strategies, made a $500 contribution to Cullerton’s 2016 campaign.

Brady’s lobbying firm, Next Generation Strategies, was a beneficiary of former Gov. Bruce Rauner’s campaign.

Cullerton has been charged with embezzlement of $275,000 for a “no work” job that was allegedly provided to him by the Teamsters Union.

Brady and Cullerton have posted photos together on Facebook.

"Choosing a lobbyist-on-the-take - like Pat Brady - as your surrogate should make it very clear who Sean Casten is,” Ives said.

Ives is challenging Casten in the 6th congressional district which includes parts of Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties.

Rauner narrowly won a primary challenge by Ives in 2018 before losing to Gov. J.B. Pritzker in a landslide.
