Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mark Curran is urging voters to take a stand against Gov. J.B. Pritzker's tax scheme.

“Vote no Nov. 3 on Gov. Pritzker’s tax scam to change the state constitution to allow for a progressive personal income tax,” Curran said. “In order to pass, the amendment will need either the approval of thee-fifths of those voting on the question or a majority of all voters who cast ballots in the election.”

Running against Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin, Curran argues it’s no surprise to see what forces are aligning behind the tax to continue to deceptively sell it as only an increase on the state’s most affluent citizens.

“Pritzker is infusing $56 million of his own cash to push the tax,” he added. “Supporters also include the Democratic leadership of the state legislature (where Democrats control both chambers), labor unions, AARP, Planned Parenthood and Sierra Club.”

With Illinois trapped in dire financial straits, Curran has hinted he may be flexible as to what is the right kind of plan aimed at erasing some of the massive deficit.

“I understand the strain that the state’s under,” he told the Prairie State Wire. “For that reason, I would not be as opposed to a federal tax increase, but nothing on the state level that would only make us less competitive because people have choices that allow them to easily leave the state.”

After serving 12 years as Lake County sheriff, Curran has vowed to put the people of Illinois first once he is seated in Washington, D.C.

“I’m going to be there for the middle class and small businesses,” he said. “I’m not going to be someone just asking what’s in the best interest of my party, but rather the state and the country.”
