Wirepoints President Ted Dabrowski has a one-track mind when it comes to getting the state’s long-muddled finances in order.
“I don’t care what reason they give, there’s no reason our legislators shouldn't at least be meeting online right now to get our finances in order,” Dabrowski told the Prairie State Wire. “The lawmakers of this state should be debating what needs to be done as our state finances are unraveling at a fantastic pace. Things are a mess and we need to be in session to deal with everything from budget shortfalls to unpaid bills to pensions still growing.”
Dabrowski sees acts like Illinois legislative leader recently moving to cancel the fall Veto Session out of concern for rising COVID-19 infection rates as simply unacceptable.
“Taxpayers everywhere should be appalled because our lawmakers aren’t doing anything for the state,” he added.
Dabrowski said claims by staffers from House Speaker Mike Madigan’s office about how they have the backing of a “strong majority” of House Democrats in calling for the cancellation make little difference.
"There’s so much going on right now, so many fights, so much corruption it’s hard to find any trust in any of these guys,” he said.
At the center of much of it is Madigan. The state’s longest-tenured lawmaker now finds himself at the center of a still unfolding federal corruption involving ComEd and a pay-for-play scheme where all the perks were allegedly steered to him in exchange for favorable legislation.
“The truth is even taking Madigan out won’t make that much of a difference because the tentacles of corruption go that wide and deep,” Dabrowski previously told the Lake County Gazette. “He’s had over 30 years to lay that network. Whoever it is that would replace him would still have that system in place. The whole system is totally corrupted, with laws in place to abuse.”
