A federal judge has delayed the hearing for an injunction filed last week by the ISRA in an attempt to force the Illinois State Police to adhere to a law that requires Firearm Owner Identification Cards (FOID cards) to be issued within the 30-day period.
The injunction was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division. The reason for the delay is the pandemic and the holiday season.
Announcement of the delay was met with frustration from many FOID card holders in Illinois.
There are 145,000 pending FOID card applications, according to the Illinois State Police, and another 27,000 Concealed Carry applications pending.
While state law requires FOID cards to be issued within 30 days of the application, the current average wait time is 121 days.
The complaint was filed this past summer by residents and some gun-rights groups claiming that the delays violate their Second Amendment right.
