Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) has been condemned by his family following his vote to impeach then-President Donald Trump.
Kinzinger's family expressed its disappointment, The Epoch Times reported.
“We were once so proud of your accomplishments! Instead, you go against your Christian principles and join the ‘Devil’s army’ (Democrats and the fake news media),” reads the handwritten letter mailed by Karen Otto and 10 other relatives.
They accused Kinzinger of being judgmental and being brainwashed.
“It is now most embarrassing to us that we are related to you. You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name!” they added.
Kinzinger took to Twitter to respond to the letter.
“I’m ok, more sad that someone would be willing to choose a man over family. And sad that it’s happening to so many,” he wrote.
Ten Republican representatives sided with Democrats and voted to impeach Trump.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the President of the United States broke his oath of office and incited this insurrection,” he said in a statement before the vote, referring to the Jan. 6 violent protests at the U.S. Capitol.
Kinzinger has even formed a political action committee to oppose the GOP's support of Trump. He may be considering switching parties.
"The party’s sick right now,” he told the New York Times, The Epoch Times reported. “It’s one thing if the party was accepting of different views, but it’s become this massive litmus test on everything. So it’s a possibility down the road, but it’s certainly not my intention, and I’m going to fight like hell to save it first.”
Many members of Congress have received backlash for supporting Trump's impeachment. Some have been censured and some are risking primary challenges.
