Media will have to cover cost of COVID testing for in-person statehouse activities

The Illinois Senate has adopted the University of Illinois saliva test in its fight to keep members and others safe as Springfield slowly transitions back to in-person activities.

Members, employees and staff will now all be tested for COVID at least twice a week using the same process employed by the university. To gain access to the grounds, individuals will be required to show his or her negative test result email.

Tests will be administered on Monday with those testing negative allowed to be in the Senate over the next two days. The second test will be given on Wednesday, with negative results clearing an individual to be in the Senate through the remainder of the week.

Testing will be conducted at the Capitol Complex at a cost of $30 per person, with media members being held responsible for covering their own cost. For those not electing to be tested, all online access will continue to be made available.
