Illinois Republican lawmakers are demanding more communication and transparency from the Gov. J.B. Pritzker administration amid growing concerns about the state’s vaccine rollout.
ABC 20 reported in March that public county health departments are raising concerns.
“We need better relationships, better communication, and better organization from the Governor’s administration to help the local health departments,” Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) said, ABC 20 reported.
In the report, GOP lawmakers highlighted the testimonies of at least 42 public health departments from across the state over Zoom.
Participants raised concerns that included a lack of vaccine availability, inconsistent communication regarding vaccine deliveries, a lack of qualified vaccine administrators, limited and restricted financial resources, and appointment registration issues.
“Because of a lack of communication and resources, their [health departments] communities were going to lose faith in their local health departments,” organizers said in a letter that was later sent to the governor, ABC 20 reported.
A spokesperson for the governor’s office said that many of the problems are national challenges and not easily fixed by the state alone, ABC 20 reported.
