Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s series of tribulations isn’t going unnoticed.
The governor’s political storms, some emanating from his own party, are so obvious that even the Illinois House Republicans know which way the wind blows.
The Illinois House GOP in a tweet stated: "Illinois Republicans are already mocking the governor for his string of politically embarrassing losses while quietly preparing to skewer Pritzker for what the latest "L" means: Even members of his own party won't give him the power he wants."
The tweet then posted a column listing some of the governor's setbacks at the hands of his own party.
In 2020, Pritzker campaigned for Sen. Kimberly Lightford for the state Senate president post but she lost to Senate veteran Don Harmon. Pritzker’s choice would have been the first African American to be Senate president if she won. Unfortunately, the governor did not have his party’s support. That’s one.
Second, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot defied his plan to vaccinate people with medical conditions over those who are eligible in the first two phases of the vaccine rollout.
Recently, the governor campaigned for Chicago’s 8th Ward Ald. Michelle Harris to become the new chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois.
But when it rains it pours: Congresswoman Robin Kelly won against Harris.
