Glenview resident Glenn Farkas said he’s had to find out the hard way that what’s been said about the conduct of the Glenbrook 225 School District is true.
“Teachers unions are harassing and vilifying anybody who runs against the school board or against teachers' union-picked candidates,” Farkas told the Prairie State Wire. “They’re not only going after people going for the school boards they’re going after me, a private citizen, who’s lending his efforts just to help them any way he can to get on the ballot.”
He cites a rally organized by two high schools students, one each from Glenbrook South and Glenbrook North, to protest Farkas' group, the Glenbrook Community Action Network (GCAN) that’s upset over the discussion of certain current events in District 225 classrooms. The protest organizers said GCAN has sent over 30 emails berating teachers and school boards in Glenview and Northbrook for discussing Black Lives Matter and the U.S. Capitol riots, “or for simply promoting inclusion in our schools, as they consider it ‘leftist indoctrination.'"
Farkas said the attacks haven't ended there.
“They’ve been trying to make me out to be a candidate when I’m not,” he added. “I think what they’re really upset with is the fact I’m good at organizing people, good at getting people to see the issues and speak out when they might not otherwise do so. It all falls back on the teachers' union, in particular Matt Whipple, the president of the Glenbrook Education Association, which is the high school union here.”
The rally was to show support for the District 225 slate of Bruce Doughty, Michelle Seguin, Matt O’Hara, and Peter Glowacki.
