The members of the House Committee on Cybersecurity, Data Analytics and IT unanimously voted yes on House Bill 3966 amending the Department of Innovation and Technology Act.
Rep. Jaime M. Andrade Jr. (D-Chicago) said that the bill is a technical amendment to the original bill that was enacted in 2018. The revisions according to the primary bill sponsor will make it more readable. Rep. Carol Ammons (D-Champaign) was later added as the bill’s chief co-sponsor.
“I just want to verify, this doesn’t change the functions of DOIT in any way, this is just an organizational clean-up,” Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-North Aurora) said during the committee’s short debate. “Is that an accurate reflection of what you're trying to accomplish?
Andrade earlier said that the bill fulfills “some clean up” on the language and confirmed to Wheeler that DOIT’s functions will not be altered.
HB3966 “Amends the Department of Innovation and Technology Act. Modifies provisions concerning the powers and duties of the Department of Innovation and Technology and its Secretary. Provides purpose provisions. Modifies definitions. Makes conforming and other changes in the Department of Innovation and Technology Act and the State Finance Act.”
Following the committee hearing, Wheeler joined Ammons as the bill’s chief co-sponsor.
