Several Republican senators congratulated Omer Osman after his appointment as secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation was confirmed.
Osman’s confirmation took place during the May 31 hearing of the Senate Executive Appointments Committee.
“Happy to present Omer Osman as secretary of transportation,” Sen. Win Stoller (R-Peoria) said. “He comes to us with more than 30 years of experience. He’s from Peoria and he’s a Bradley grad. He’s one of my constituents and I’d be happy to see everyone support Omer Osman as secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.”
Osman thanked everyone who helped him achieve his goal.
“I just want to thank you for what you’ve done,” Sen. Steve McClure (R-Jacksonville) told Osman before his confirmation. “You’ve worked with everybody in a bipartisan fashion and I want to thank you for your hard work and I’ll be voting yes for you today."
The 29-year veteran of the agency was also congratulated by Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia).
“Director, I just wanted to compliment you,” he said. “You’ve received a lot of positive feedback from our office. I’m not sure why it’s taken so long for you to be confirmed.”
Osman was appointed Transportation Secretary by Gov. J.B. Pritzker in 2019. He was the department's deputy secretary before his appointment.
