Illinois GOP Chairman Don Tracy recently pointed to what he sees as an endless list of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s shortcomings in steering the state through the COVID-19 crisis.
“During a global pandemic that required steady leadership, Governor Pritzker failed our most vulnerable in their time of need,” Tracy said in his weekly memo. “When our children missed an entire year of in-person education, Pritzker was silent while political teachers' unions forced children to stay home even when the science and CDC said they should be back in school. When thousands of Illinoisans were laid off from work, they went weeks without help from Pritzker’s incompetent state unemployment agency. And when our nation’s elderly heroes needed protection from the virus in our state facilities, the tragic mistakes of the Pritzker administration led to the death of 36 veterans at LaSalle Veterans' Home.”
Tracy rates the governor’s handling of the crisis totally lacking.
"Gov. Pritzker’s record on helping Illinois through the pandemic is a failure,” he said. “I look forward to talking about that and his radical policy agenda out of step with Illinoisans in the upcoming election.”
In another of his recent newsletter, Tracy blasted the governor over how he thinks he has hindered too many businesses across the state with restrictions and shutdown orders.
“Cities and towns across America are re-opening and attempting to get back to normal,” he said. “Yet, businesses are still suffering – especially right here in Illinois. In Pekin, Two P’s Pizza and Pub has been forced to close its doors early because there aren’t enough people to help keep it open during regular business hours.”
Tracy laments that’s just one example, also pointing to how the Pekin Park District has also seen a decline in job applicants.
“Meanwhile in Peoria, the owner of the Untamed Chef has been forced to hit pause on expanding her business because she cannot find workers, and in St. Charles, Bison Gear & Engineering is struggling to find workers to operate machinery on the factory floor,” he said.
