AWAKE Illinois leaders are angry that a recent Auditor General’s review of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) proves that the agency is everything the group feared it is.
“ISBE ineptitude reigns supreme,” AWAKE Illinois posted on Twitter. “A state audit of ISBE shows they are a giant failure.”
According to Edgar County Watchdogs, the findings included such shortcomings as lack of census data reconciliations, noncompliance with the school code on bullying prevention, insufficient controls over school construction projects and noncompliance with the school code on a heroin and opioid drug prevention pilot program.
Edgar Watchdogs argues the findings call attention to the need for a total revamping of the system.
“People should know, these board members are appointed by the Governor and are supposed to be approved by the Senate,” the group posted on its website. “While we do not know the current status of these appointments and approvals, we will update once we obtain that information.”
